Samsung appears to be pushing advertisements in the notification shade for some Galaxy users. According to Android Police, the new ads started appearing recently, although it is not known how widespread the problem is. The ad in question is for the latest Samsung Galaxy Edge.
The real question here is whether users will put up with ads on their phones. HTC got into trouble when it pushed an ad for the Fantastic Four. Users were upset, but perhaps Samsung thinks they will get a pass. I doubt it.
Samsung should take a tip from Amazon, who has struck the right balance with their Kindle. Amazon sells two versions of the Kindle, one with ads and one without. The customer can opt to pay more for the Kindle without ads. Samsung will surely alienate a lot of users if they continue to push ads to the phone. They will surely give their users a big reason to look at the iPhone.
