Google announced last year they would make a YouTube app for kids 13 years old and under. The younger demographic is an important onel for YouTube as family friendly videos are growing on YouTube at 4 times the rate of other videos. Google finally made good on their promise to create a kids-only version of YouTube and they will launch YouTube Kids on February 23.
YouTube Kids is a free app that will be available on Android for now. iOS versions will almost certainly follow at some point. The app features simplified search buttons that will allow kids to search the millions of videos on YouTube. If they type in something age-inappropriate, the app will simply respond with "try again."
YouTube Kids will make it easy for kids to find the videos they want to watch, and will give parents peace of mind knowing the app provides a walled garden and safe environment for kids.
