Google offers Android Design guidelines for Ice Cream Sandwich

News - By: SPBlast! Staff - January 13, 2012

Google has introduced design guidelines for OEMs and developers. Android has been criticized as been fragmented, and Google is making an effort to give a more consistent experience. Matias Duarte gave The Verge the news at CES 2012.

Android OEMs and app developers will be provided with a set of in-depth guidelines on how to build atop of Android. All the instructions will be made available on a new website — Android Design, a subset of the Android Developers site — which will be built out over time with ever more granular and detailed best practice advice.

Although Android is an open platform, someone really needs to take the lead to provide a better experience for customers. The guide is optional, but Google will try to convince developers to follow it to provide a better experience.

the guide includes information like typography, color palettes, and other stylistic advice, as well as a breakdown of the components making up the Android UI.
