When Google acquired Motorola there was a lot of speculation on how the company would influence Motorola's phones. It was widely believed at the time that Google was purchasing Motorola for its patents, and had little interest in designing smartphones. The world has changed since then, and it looks like Google will have some influence on Moto's efforts.
In a recent PC Mag interview, Motorola design chief, Jim Wicks, talked about plans for the first post-acquisition smartphones. It looks like Motorola will be working on stock Android phones that contain as little bloatware as possible.
He also revealed a new design philosophy that bigger is not necessarily better. In fact, "better is better."
It will be interesting to see how Motorola's next handsets do. With the hiring of Guy Kawasaki it certainly feels like Motorola will be back in the game. Only time will tell though.
