Another SMS Trojan for Android devices appears

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 10, 2010

About a month ago a SMS Trojan was spotted in the wild, and now there's another one floating around. The SMS Trojan dubbed Trojan-SMS-AndroidOS-FakePlayer-B is targeting Android phones. This Trojan is mostly in Russia, but obviously everyone is at risk.

The Trojan is being distributed via Russian sites offering porn video clips. To get the Trojan the user has to manually install what they think is a media player package (to view porn).

"Once installed, the Trojan begins sending SMS messages to a premium rate number costing $6 each, enriching cybercrooks in the process. This happens as a background process so victims would normally only find out they have been stung once a hefty bill lands on their doorstep."

Be careful what you install on your phone. When you give third party programs the rights to your OS you're opening yourself up for something like this.
