The Sprint EVO has launched and I got my hands on the last one of Launch day. So many people love the EVO that Sprint has apparently run short of stock and there is a wait to pick one up now. In fact, Sprint beat a record previously held by the Palm Pre for the most handsets moved in one day.
Since several sites have already published detailed reviews, so this will be a short list of impressions after living with the EVO for a few days.
The Good:
It's fast
It's powerful.
The large screen is easy to look at.
The EVO has an 8 megapixel camera.
HTC Sense UI is fantastic.
Lots of apps in the Android Market.
Mobile Hotspot capable.
The Bad:
Battery life is terrible.
The EVO is simply too wide so it does not feel good in the hand.
Because of the wide screen my palm seems to be launching apps by accident.
Android is not as refined as Apple's iOS.
The soft keyboard is too busy and not easy to type on.
Mobile Hotspot costs $30 monthly.
Issues:
The EVO has crashed on me several times. To be specific, the HTC Sense UI and music apps have crashed often. I've also had issues with reading the SD card. Every time I sync my music, or mount the drive with a computer, some custom ringtones get reset, and very often I have to reboot the phone to get the SD card to read again.
The biggest problem with the Sprint EVO is its size. It just doesn't fell comfortable in the hand because it's too wide. If you really want a large screen and don't mind carrying a brick, then this phone is for you. If you like Android but want a more reasonable pocket friendly device, check out the HTC Desire (GSM).
Bottom Line:
The EVO is a powerful Android device and probably a good choice for people who don't mind the size. If you like Android and want to be at the front of the line of hot devices, check out the EVO.
