Wikipedia launches mobile version

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - July 06, 2009

The Wikimedia Foundation has launched a mobile optimized version of Wikipedia. This new mobile version only works on "fully featured" smartphones right now, but we're sure they'll expand the offering.

"At the moment, the Mobile site supports iPhone, Kindle, Android, and Palm Pre. And we fully support both English and German. There are other working languages, but they haven’t been fully translated yet. Our goal is to grow slowly and do it really well. We are starting out simple with limited support in order to test the usability and the platform’s stability. So far, things are looking good."

Wikipedia is providing automatic forwards for mobile devices so if you go to a page on your mobile device, they'll forward you to the appropriate mobile version.
